Prince Boris Monument
Borisov is named in honor of its’ founder- the Polotsk Prince Boris , who founded this town 1102.
The Prince Boris was the eldest son of Vseslav Charodey, uncle of Efrosinya Polotskaya and Evpraksia’s father. Evpraksia gave her dowry to the building of the church in Polotsk in the 12 century. Also Boris was a nephew of the Kyiv Prince Yaroslav The Wise.
As a boy Boris took part in wars and tought war skills. Boris was old enough when he gained the throne. The Prince continued politics of his father and spreading of the Christianity.
The scientists nowadays don’t exactly know the purpose of 6 Borisov’s stones. But the main idea is that people asked for help (eating or fortune during the war events) making writings on them.
The monument to the Prince Boris was installed in 2002 near the Sviato Voskresenskay Church in old part of the town. The architects of the monument are I. Morozov and E. Kovalevskiy. The composition of the monument is quite interesting. You can see Boris Vseslavovich who stands on the rock and holding the sword like the Christian Cross. There is the angel protecting the prince in his difficult life behind the back of Boris.
