
Holy Resurrection Cathedral
The Sviato-Voskresenskiy Orthodox Cathedral in Borisov is included in the list of State real estate historical and cultural values of Belarus as the item of historical and cultural value of the 3d category. The Church can really be called a piece of decoration of Borisov town, its’ visiting card and has become the center of orthodox life of the region.
The Sviato-Voskresenskiy Cathedral was built by the Russian architect Petr Merkulov in the 2nd half of the 19th century. Rebuilding of the Cathedral took 3 years and was finished on 15 October 1874 on the place where wooden Cathedral (built in 1620-1648) was destroyed by fire. Funds for the construction were allocated by the government.
The red brick temple is a monument of architecture. It is centric, as a cross in the design, has 3 apses and it is finished with 9 domes. There are rich decorative elements on the facades of the church.
Inside the church there are cross vaults resting on arches with the image of Christ. There is the high Altar of the resurrection of Christ in the apse. On the right side you can find the Altar in honor of the duke Aleksandr Nevskiy, there is the Altar in honor of the duke Vladimir on the left side
In the early 20th century there were about 6000 parishioners. The first priest of the church was Kliment Gorodetskiy. Being afraid of robbery the priest ordered to paint the domes blue. It was only in 2017, after the last restoration, that the church got the original sight.
